The Virtual Number is one of the free feature offered by Vonage. In general the Vonage phone adapter will be assigned an U.S phone number. You can carry and install the phone adapter in any where in this world. All you need is the access to Highspeed Internet connection.

Let us say you are using the Vonage service in Japan. If you receive a call from U.S you will be charged at the local pricing or free if the call is from Vonage. If you receive a call from a Japan number with different carrier, they will be charged for international call.

Hence, to avoid the charge for the International calling, you an add a Japan Virtual to your account which will be mapped to your primary number. Hence, you can place a request to the callers to dial your Japan virtual number. As a result, the caller will be charged at local cost and the you will receive the calls to your Vonage number.
